Well, I'm not entirely sure this is what you're looking for but if you're looking for home Internet service then I've been happy with my service from Qwest. I have unlimited wireless internet with them. Here's a link to their various packages:

http://www.qwest.com/residential/internet/broadbandlanding/

If I read it right, a home phone isn't required. I don't know if you live in their service area though.

If you're talking about mobile phones, then I'd have to do some more checking around.

I hope this helps a little bit.

Good luck!

The problem with MagicJack is it is entirely dependent on having your computer running all the time, otherwise you won't be able to make or take phone calls. To call it a home phone is a bit stretching it.

Comwave is a better option and quite affordable. For $10 a month you can get a basic home-phone service with unlimited local calling. It is worth noting that this is a VoIP service which means the calls are routed over your Internet connection to save money, but in every other way it's just like a normal home phone.
http://www.comwave.net/residential/voice-over-ip/index.shtml

Viatalk is another highly recommended VoIP service.
Edit: Sorry, I made an error. ViaTalk does not service Canada. You can still get outbound calling, but your incoming number would be for some city in the U.S.
For Canadian VoIP providers, see here:
http://voipchoices.com/voip-canada.html

This is what I was saying about ViaTalk:

For about $10.75 a month (on a yearly contract) you can get unlimited calling to Canada and the USA as well as all the extras (Caller ID, Call Waiting, VoiceMail) included.

As a limited time promotional offer, Via Talk will also include a second phone line free with your $10.75/mo service. That means you can have two independent phone calls at the same time.

As another bonus offer, you also get 60 minutes of free calling to most popular International destinations including Australia and the United Kingdom.

Wireless internet is not determined by the provider. You can get a wireless router to get wireless Internet in your house. I think cell phone services are starting to offer it, like Verizon. Or maybe you could think about satellite, but that is very expensive. I recommend you just get a wire to your house and get a wireless router for $40 or so.

Consider interviewing some engineers at local engineering firms and some architecture and design firms. Likely you will not find Macs except in some editors' offices, some designers' work areas and at some musicians' studios and at some certain programmers' offices. Much hype in the Macs are better advertisements.

Intelligent careful users configure a PC - or a Mac or open-source O/S on any platform to be secure and then work intelligently on the computer, avoiding the phishing, porn with virus laden payloads, similarly problematic coupon sites and gambling and warez sites.

Consider getting a good speedy HP or Dell or Avertec or maybe an ASUS if you have some buddies you are really tech savy to guide you, go with what they suggest and immediately begin using Carbonite or another online data vault service for data backup as well and press that they promise also to help you at least occasionally at times in the future. Savy techs can usually connect to or advise you even from a distance.

Dell Vostro Core 2 Duo for 599 plus the 2 3 or 4 year warranty, and add in the accidental loss or damage Complete Care protection but get the student and teacher version of software for it, or go directly to microsoft.com/partners and become an affiliate so you get newest software CDs and DVDs every 90 days for about $300 US per year. Your engineering software will be extra. HP and Toshiba and other notebook PCs are a better bet for you and others who read this, who ever is still reading at this point. The PC haters have already stopped reading by now. You will need to PLAN to reload your PC some times, likely every 6 to 8 months or every year or two unless you are tremendously diligent to keep you computer up to date and not loaded down with bloat-ware or problem programs, and to at all times compute vigilantly and attentively to avoid problems. The shorter lifecycle is simple. Four times faster every year or two. So keeping a PC over 3 years is like driving your car in only the next lower gear, all the time, each year. The PC can be kept in good shape but still comes to appear slower as the other newer PCs are so much faster each month. Why would one advise you you get and keep a Mac for engineering and design and music work for more than several years I can not fathom. PCs are generally, mostly the better route money-wise. You could go with Linux on a good piece of hardware and save a bundle over time.
